I agree with Ivor that gap is not normal. If you have the same gap on all or half the calipers, I would also go for a defective master cylinder. It appears that somehow reservoir fluid is not passing through the master cylinder into the system. The reason you feel the pedal hard with the engine of is because you have no servo assistance, this is normal. Good luck. Richard
