Please help! I have a short *.avi file that I am trying to convert to an mpeg-1 file and email to a friend. 1. I create the *.avi file with Ulead and with no audio (length is 37s). 2. I create the *.wav file to go with the *.avi (length is 37s). 3. I use TMPGEnc 2.5 to encode the *.mpg using the *.avi as the video source and the *.wav as the audio source I have tweeked all of the video setting to produce a low quality, mpeg-1 email-able size file. I am using the toolame 02k as the audio engine outputing a 44100Hz, 256Kbps, stereo stream. My friend is using WinXP and Windows Media Player 9 to view the file. She gets the video just fine, but no audio. She does not have a DVD drive or DVD playing software. BTW, the file plays just fine on my machine (WinXP WMP9). I have WinDVD on my machine (but should that matter for mpeg-1?). What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hope this isn't insulting - but can your friend play any video clips with sound? Also, sound files come in different formats - WAV, MIDI, etc., and are controlled seperately on the pc. Good Luck.

It turned out to be my own ignorance. :sly: I thought I was producing an Mpeg-1 when I was actually producing an Mpeg-2. I didn't realize that when you create a system stream with TMPEnc that there is another tab with settings. I had set the encoder to mpeg-1 in the video tab, but I really should have been changing that setting in the system tab. I ran across a great utility in the process of struggling with this issue. It's called AVICodec and it allowed me to analyze the output file from TMPEenc to the extent that I could see I was still producing an mpeg-2 when it should have been mpeg-1 Thanks.:D
