Personally, I am not sure that using the 002 will significantly improve your work throughput.Sure, features such as the transport controls, page toggle buttons, mixer channel nudge etc..help but not massively particularly if you are up to speed using keyboard shortcuts. Like you I was attracted by the standalone aspect but also the 002 has the slightly more upmarket features of balanced connections and 24/96 capability. It has to be said that the pre's are excellent too. Overall, the 002 is more expensive than adding a generic controller but it does represent good value when all factors are taken into account.
I've read some reviews of the 002 in that mention a few things that the 002 annoyingly lacks - no jog/shuttle wheel,no automation enable, no editing functions (cut, copy, etc.), can't jump to markers, can't create new tracks. Also, the Sampletank "SE" only allows you to utilize the instruments that come bundled with it, and one review said the bar/beat display on the 002 tends to lag up to a whole beat behind the actual position in the software! These seem like quite a few limitations. Even the baby HUI has automation control and mode options on it. I'm wondering if it's more worth it to stick with the 001 and utilize a generic controller like the motormix or the upcoming MotorMate which pretty much combines the motormix and the Dashboard into one portable surface. I can probably even get a big HUI on sale for cheaper than the 002. Do you know how the motormix compares with the 002 in terms of control? What about the HUI? Also, do you have any experience with the SAC2.2? (I can't find a motormix or an SAC ANYWHERE on display to try out). Are either of the above control surfaces compatible yet with PT6 in OSX? Thanks, Peter

I'm also considering the Digi 002 with a mac notebook (probably a titanium). I'm just getting back into mac's. Digi is making buying an 002 a hard choice by not getting on the stick about making it 6.0/OSX compatable. In essence if I were to buy an 002 at this point I would have to get an OS8 sysrem and be forced to pay more later ro upgrade to OSX. Any word on when 002 willbe 6.0 OSX compatable will be appreciated.
No - this was just a short version addressed to the prior responder. I posted a new topic on the main page with more questions I had about the limitations. Today, I received an email with a link saying that I got a response to that new topic I had posted. I went to the link, and it said 'this topic does not exist.' I searched the pages, and, low and behold, my topic had been deleted.
Yes, I'm sure. Everytime I've posted topics on this forum, I am emailed a notification with a link to any responses: "Hello, A user has replied to a topic you created at DUC. Once command key focus is integrated in 6.0 for 002, it will make working with it much easier. What I would have liked is to see all important mix fuctions incorporated into the 002 so that you could just leave the edit window on the computer at all times, and conduct all mixing fuctions from the 002 without having to look at the computer. This is why the previously mentioned lack of automation enable is a serious drag. And the inability to create new tracks. Also, a couple things left out in terms of recording: only one headphone output, and the inability to track with plug-ins instantiated such as reverb in low latency mode. Both shortcomings make it difficult to do something basic like overdub vocals. Incidentally, I've used 002 a couple times in standalone mode and I'm very impressed. The snapshot integration is awesome, and the on-board FX are surprisingly good.

"a couple things left out in terms of recording: only one headphone output," quoted it has 8 asignable outputs, and 1 dedicated headphone jack for the mixer. If you wanted you can plug in 8 headphones to the back of it. so technically it has 9 but depending on the situation it would probably be less
