Welcome to the forums! Here's a DFH drum map: I guess (never used drum maps) it's as simple as opening the MIDI editor on the drum track and going 'File->Import note names from file', then pointing the file open dialog to the .txt drum map file you downloaded. :)

Hi Reality and welcome to the forums! If there is no drummap, its easily created. Just double-right-click in the piano roll or the list at the left side of the MIDI-editor and enter the name of the instruments one by one. This is done in a few minutes. Once you're done you just select "Save note names to file..." in the file menu of the MIDI-editor for later use in other projects. HTH -Data

thanks for the help dudes! i realized that in trying to keep my post as brief as possible, i left out some key details of what i was really trying to achieve. what i'm trying to achieve is what the guy is talking about in this video at 4:40 the problem is, i can't find the plugin he is talking about (midi note namer) in this version of reaper. i read some of the comments for this video and it seems like some other people are having the same issue.. also, how would i get my piano roll to look like his? is this just another difference in versions or is this something i can change? i much prefer the listed look that he has in this video.

You don't need the NoteNamer plugin anymore. It's all integrated nicely in the MIDI editor's file menue. Plus, as Mr Data said, you can enter note names directly per double-right-click on the piano keys. Btw.: Reaper can read cakewalks *.ins files (instrument definition). To get the view you see in the video, check the entries in the view menue. Mode: Named notes will get you the listed look. Also try the triangles or diamond note shapes from this menue to get rid of the note lengths that are (most of the time) not needed for drum sequencing

I have made a custom action to load drum maps, which sets the view mode to named notes and triangles, upon loading the drum map. Will post when I get home.

Here's Load Drum Map key action. I assigned it to Ctrl+L (I moved Load note names from file to Shift+L).
