Hi All, It's a little too early to call tech support so I thought I'd post here first. I ran my first real editing session on my new HD rig. I use PT 6.7 cs5 and HD 1. The computer is custom. Basically it's a P4C800-E Deluxe. I have a gig of dual ram, a prescott 3.20E. The system runs very well for a couple of hours. When I open the session, the paging file usage in the task maniger is @ 300MB. After about two hours of really fast editing, I opened the task maniger and the paging file was at 1.3 GB. Anyway, that's around what I set the maximum paging file to be. If I don't restart the Comp or PT, the system will crash. The crash is probably because of RAM and paging file being used up. What gives? I thought I set the comp up the right way. This is my first PT on a PC rig. I've used Nuendo on a PC without this problem. I know they aren't the same app, not even close. Tasks are set to background services . I'm usng XP with SP2. HT is disabled in the bios and XP from the XP install. Anything else I should do? Can shed some light on the subject? Thanks for the help and time in advance. Peace, Brandon
K.O. Thanks for the help. If buying more RAM will solve the problem, I'll be happy to do so. I've been testing a little. I think some of the problem could be digibase. I have a 400gig SFX library on local IDE, ATA100 drives. I checked yesterday, and one of the Digidesign Databases was over 100 MB. Could this be a problem? I'm still learning about this new feature. I would like to know if the Digidesign Databases are stored in RAM or how PT uses the file. Can anyone explain this to me or point me to the info? Also, does anyone know a way to get Digibase to show the metadata in wave files? The only thing I can currently show is the finder comments. All the descriptions for my SFX library are somewhere in the file under descriptions. Thanks for the help in advance. Peace, Brandon
Hi Danny, If you get a second would you mind looking at the other thread I posted yesterday? The plug-in I removed was a free vst plug-in called TonyB surround tools. I've used Nuendo for years and have all kinds of VST's I've rapped. I think I'm just going to remoive them all. Peace, Brandon
Hi All, I guess I spoke too soon. I'm still having this problem. Somethings I've noticed sence my last post. Whenever I locate in the timeline and hit play PT seems to use a MB or two more. Thgis only happenes with sessions that hae more than one track. I was testing with restoration session that only had one active track and one master track and this behaveior didn't seem to happen. Also, I tested this with a music mixing sessin with about 24 tracks and this bewhavior was present. I tried switching from the non dithered mixeer to the dithered one. This seems to help. With the dithered mixer, PT only seems to be using about one MB everytime I locate in the time line. Still, every couple of hours or so I'm forced to restart the session. I'm thinking about just powering through it by buying another gig or RAM but I'd really like to solve the actual problem and not just patch it. Thanks to all for the time and advice. Peace, Brandon
Hi All, Is their anyway someone can take a couple of minutes and test this. Basically, the test is just to open a session with 8 tracks or so. Then, just quickly locate to different places in the time line and press play with the task manager window open. Keep repeating watching the paging file usage. Is it static or does it increase a couple of MB's everytime you hit play? If you repeat for long enough, does it look like you willl run out of memory eventually? Thanks for all the help. Peace, Brandon
Hi Brandon, Doing as you described, I tested my system. At first it seemed as if it would continue to deplete memory resources..but then after several minutes it stabilized and the availability and/or memory usage remained constant. I'm going to continue running it hard for an hour (or so) and see if there is any change and/or if it does run out -maybe I can get it to crash..however, at this juncture, it ran down some- stabilized (with both memory usage and availability, paging etc..) and now it's humming along just fine..If I find anything else out I'll post here. len PS. I have a Digidesign TDM Compressor, Meequalizer, and Maxim running with heavy editing and automation (throughout) on a 14 track session on Win XP HD Accel 2. Also, if it is depeleting memory is this the phenomenon called a "memory leak" or could there be a problem with your system RAM? Anywho, so far so good..
