It's possible the DVD-ROM drive just isn't able to read the Ritek brand of DVD-R's. It's just like standalone DVD player compatibility, some DVD-ROMs will read/play only certain makes of DVD-R. I have an ACER DVD-ROM, it won't read anything but commercial DVDs and Pioneer DVD-Rs. Anything else, it just tries and tries and eventually times out. I don't think there's anything you can do (burning-wise) that would change that situation. (FYI: I burn mostly Ritek G3's (at 2x) with my Pioneer A03. They play in everything I own - except the DVD-ROM drive)
