Automation in lanes still needs to be clicked on so that points can be selected with a marquee tool. This should no longer be necessary, since only one automation parameter (should?) lives on each lane. It should always be active on the open lane. Also, one still has to click ON the actual envelope graph to place a point. However, if you let people just click anywhere without having the envelope lose its ON(thicker line) status, and create the automation point on the envelope at the time, not the height, of the click and let the user drag up and down as well to change the value from thereon, that would be great. So the user would click anywhere with the point-adding action(SHIFT+left-click in my case) in the lane. Reaper would create an automation point on the envelope, using only the time position, not the height position of the mouse cursor. If the user holds the mouse button he/she can move the envelope point up/down until the mouse button is let go. It'll require less precise mouse actions on the part of the user, and thus less work. ==EDIT== Video comparison. The click-anywhere-with-modifier to create automation points is actually the way PT works. What is doesn't have is selecting points non-contiguously and a whole batch of stuff. The creating of automation points is a lot less fiddly though, because you don't have to target the automation graph, but can click anywhere. This is what this request is all about.
