Bull.....yeah I am.....when I'm recording I use my interface...so I don't have this problem....and I could use that now as well.....but, I like the portability of just the plain old lap top, when I'm doinking around, or mixing......so I go straight in the 1/8 inch jack as use the ASIO driver and the Reaper master volume. Maybe I need to rethink my priorities....since my dad couldn't hear shit when he got older.....and it is one of my fears in life...losing my hearing.

Shep...I don't need to check them right now.....I can tell something is wrong......it'll go away though.....like I said....I've done this many times. It'll be back to normal tomorrow. Don't get me wrong....I can hear out of it.....it's just a little plugged/swollen feeling. Yep....time I change my style of monitoring.

A couple of years back I bought a Presonus Monitor Station. I got tired of trusting software to look after the best interests of my hearing. If you set the cue level on that gear to your desired maximum, then that's where everything stops. I like that feeling of security after having one too many ear bludgeoning events in the past.

My lo budget M-Audio 24/96 has analog and SPDIF outputs. So I connect analog outs to the mixer "tape in" (has a button "tape to control room/phones")and digital outs to the amp. Headphones are connected to the mixer. Speakers to the amp. This way I have separate control over both levels.

I think I might get one of these tomorrow, and see how it works.

The Radio Shack thing is probably the same ass the others, just without the ins and outs and headphone amp. They both sound like they just use a potentiometer to send some signal to ground.

yep: Nice summary. Regarding your sig; Yeah, Monster really have been acting badly as long as I can remember, so I've avoided them all these years. Far too expensive compared to actual performance, and appears bloated like heck with those thick, curly and bubbly type of casings. Also, sellers are running around trying to push Monster cables on you everywhere you go. I think my gf bought monster optic cable once, but hey... I hadnt a clue about those lawsuits though. I'm so f'n sick of copyrights being used like some sort of gold mining ventures. What if these companies got rid of the army of lawyers and used the money for more constructive purposes? Bah, this annoy me much more than I'm allowed to say out loud here. However, a big thanks to Doughboy for bringing up this matter. I think my volume settings have steadily increased again the last year or so, but after having read this thread and tested my ears I realize that I should begin to appreciate the remaining frequencies more. As I speak I'm listening to music with my DT-770's on a pretty low volume setting, and I must say that I can hear "everything" just fine at those settings as well :)

Oh yeah.....Yep got me thinking about people mowing there lawns and such with those ear buds and there MP3 players........if I take my MP3 player and crank it up pretty loud....a little louder than I'd normally listen......and then start my mower.....I can't even hear the freakin' music.......(and by the way....I ware hearing protection when I mow, because my tractor is prett loud)...but.....are these people not going to give themselves serious damage if they have the volume up loud enough that they can hear the songs over a mower.......just seems nuts to me.

Hey Doughboy you might check out an Echo Indigo for your laptop listening. I've not used one, but I do have two of their Layla 24's for recording, and they are an excellent company (still provide driver updates for products they discontinued years ago!). The Indigo pops into your PCMCIA slot on the laptopn, and has an an analog volume knob built in. PS - regarding your other thread - your daughter has an excellent singing voice and technique - you should be proud!

I checked out the echo deal.....seems pretty cool....but, it seems a little pricey for what I need....and I don't think my Dell has that C slot...whatever that it... I just bought that radio shack deal that posted the link too....10 bucks....seems to work fine.....all though.....it's a liiiittle flimsy feeling......I don't think it'll last very long before it gets a short in it.
