When I open a Reaper project, it always seems to be looking for missing samples\audio. Most of the time I haven't moved the samples since the last time I worked on the project. Am I supposed to be containing the Reaper project somehow? Also, I've downloaded some project files from the reaper website, but when I try and open them, it comes up with missing samples\audio or wants to search for them even though the samples are in the same folder as the project file. What am I missing here?

i usually keep these two options selected to make sure everything gets saved in one folder:

Yes, "Move" will move the files from wherever they are into your project's folder. "Copy" puts them all into the project's folder but also leaves them in the original folders too.

nice, well "copy" is the one for me then. thanks as far as opening other people's projects... when I download something from the Reaper site that contains the project file and all the sounds used in the file, how do I go about opening it? When I do it always needs me to search for the files\sounds used. Is this normal? Or is there a setting I'm missing were Reaper will look for the sounds within the folder that the project file is in?

Double-click it. When Reaper reports that a file is missing, browse to wherever the file is on your disk, select it. Reaper will then load any other files in that folder or prompt you to browse to another missing file. When all are loaded Save the project (perhaps with a slightly different name) and Reaper will put the correct file paths in the project fie. HTH
