Nice. But as for being an actual track though, a downside I can see is that it would occupy an extra useless track on a surface controller, such as MCU, wasting space. It'd be nice to have some kind of object that could do this, be a divider or whatever, that doesn't waste space on a controller or in the mixer as being a inoperable track—some object that doesn't register as a track. If there are all these faders showing up which really aren't tracks you need to mix, it can get confusing to find the real tracks that do.
Bitrate I hear you! ;) I would like to add that for things like folder tracks, empty items on them would work really well, and be far more adaptable than tracks based right at the top in the ruler As for the tracks showing up on the mixer, perhaps an option to hide that track from the mixer as soon as it detects a empty item with marker/region mode on. ;)

Cool idea! Could be used for lyrics, too. I've tried the two methods (that I'm aware of) to use items for lyrics in the current Reaper, but they fall way short of ideal. --Bill
Ooh this idea would be very handy. To add to the fire, It would be really nice to have a way to sketch in them as well, for making diagrams on the fly.
Voted. A slightly similar feature are the marker tracks of Nuendo, and they're about 1000% cooler than Reapers single-lane marker and single-lane region lists. Just a lot more useful to have a bunch of space to mark out your projects. For me that's dialog recording cues, scene transitions, effect sequence markings, production sound cues, foley requirements, music cues, fx spotting cues, session planning and so on and so forth.
Indeed! :) it was nuendo where I got the idea back in the day ;) We have the opportunity to do so much more though with them! Also, perhaps a moderator could move this to feature requests since I didn't realise when I bumped it where it was :) thanks!
