Helo folks: When I doing the preview of a movie in DVD2AVI, the statistics windows shows that it is: Aspect 4:3 Framerate: 29,970 Video Type: NTSC Frame Type: Interlaced But this type of movie is not listed on the doom9 tutorial when using Gknot. The guide tells you to check if it is FILM, and also asks for a percentage, there's none here. In the preview I can see some black lines going through the picture, but there are really few of them. Should I worry about those "FORCE FILM", "IVTC" or the deinterlace? Which one should I use and why?

Hi- When it just says NTSC, it means 100% NTSC. However, that doesn't mean it's pure interlaced. The chances are good it can be IVTC'd. So yes, you have to worry about IVTC. Unless it truly is from an interlaced source, then you use the No Field Operation option in DVD2AVI and add IVTC when setting up your .avs in GKnot. For more information (more than you ever bargained for), then please read the .

Thanks for the reply manono, I'll try to encode again, using IVTC.:) But just one more question, suppose it's from an interlaced source, which is the method you would advise for deinterlacing, since many guides talk about deinterlacing, but they all seem to be afraid of telling "use this or that method" because of the quality loss that can occur.

Hi- I'm guessing that this may be an anime you're encoding, in which case it can almost certainly be IVTC'd (did you learn about inspecting the frames from reading that tutorial?). I can understand why people might not want to recommend one deinterlacer over another. You have to try them out and see which you prefer. I just got through responding to a friendly discussion with TheWEF over the same issue. Maybe go have a look at unknownx's thread nearby called Stupid Ghosting Effects.
