I really don't think there's anything wrong with your machine. Maybe your methods... 1) Amplitube is a power HOG. When you say "mulitple instances", how many are we talking about? And what models and effects are you running? With the right model and devices loaded (granted, I'm trying to break it), I can bring my Quadzilla to it's knees with only two instances of Ampltibe 2.1. It all depends on how you have it set. Generally, when working with Amplitube, I record the DI and the output of the plugin initially, and then turn off that instance of the plugin until and unless I want to re-amp it. That's the nature of guitar modelling plugins. They are ALL CPU hogs, in my experience. 2) Windows XP supports 4GB.

5) sounds like your preferences are being corrupted. Have you checked the system disk lately? Also, if you manually trash prefs, this will happen.

spk- As usual, thanks. Yeah, I am probably asking too much of the CPU with the Amplitube 2. There is just too much cool stuff in that plug-in...it really sounds awesome. So you buss it out to another audio channel while recording the dry signal, essentially recording 2 tracks at a time? Also, Is there a method to setting Windows so that it will recognize the additional RAM?(thanks for the link). Gotta love the stand-alone ability of Amplitube 2.1 too! It's fun to practice again... Thanks...

Talked to Pcaudiolabs tech support tonight and he talked me through the boot ini issue. It was pretty easy actually. Basically just copying the last line and putting /3gb at the end. I'm not sure if it will make a difference, but it hasn't caused any problems, which is a good sign.

OK, update....I uninstalled the new 3gb fix. Turns out it isn't really necessary. What I did do was installed the AMD dual core optimizer and the Microsoft dual core hotfix, then disabled ALL of my network adaptors. Went into the same session of protools and it played back without a hitch at a buffer setting of 64!!! Happy man...yes I am.

interesting gtr131. keep us posted with your current config. i just wanted to chime in earlier today but didn't get a chance. i wanted to basically say the same as spk about A2 being a resource hog, especially running at 64. it puts a load on my quad as well. do you know about the latest update making A2 a little more cpu friendly ( sorry if this was covered already )
