If you are like me you have a lot of ideas and unfinished songs on the back burner - that sometimes should be in the forefront of my memory. But I forget those nights sometimes when two or three ideas flow and I get some tracks laid down with the intention of finishing them once the current project is complete. Trouble is, more ideas and the backlog continues. I sometimes find myself pouring over the files in explorer and thinking - wow, I am missing out on finishing these songs. I have a new ideas folder, but it is barely effective due to the weakest link - me. How do you manage this? Should I be using a planner or calender to track these as tasks? Would it be worth while to have a SWS action to help log and remind me of this kind of thing? Interested to learn from others. I have about 10 songs on that back burner at any given moment. Thanks,

As far as logging ideas. Things will be so far along in two years if we all make it, we'll be in legacy land all over again. Optical Firewire. USB-3. Prioritized MIDI. etc. Something like the Quicktime preview window to play a rough mix would be cool. Sad thing is with all these hard drives one has to be careful about extension conflicts because I lost a lot of material. Not as sharp as I was before. Never throw out those old Macs, firewire IDE enclosures or ditch the drive with XP on it. My .02. There's a program called ScreenWriter by the WriteBrothers. Every now and then when you fiddle with some preference a little message pops up reminding you that you should be working. It's humurous and effective. ... or get a publishing deal.

I'm terrible for this, i revisited a few unfinished ideas last night and by god, there are about 15 of them just from the last 8 months or so. Some of them i can't even remember what tuning i was playing in so i'm probably going to struggle to finish those ones! So my tip is... use the 'Notes' tab in the project settings for pertinent information such as tunings or perhaps where you felt the idea might go next.

I have many, many songs ready to go. I'm in a terrible location at the moment. Can't record for another year. Terrible stuff!

I've got about 20 'good' ideas that really need finishing off - I'm starting to think that I don't finish them because of a lack of confidence - as it is, they are 'good' ideas, but once I finish something, it becomes something definitive that can be criticised by other people. ...that and haveing the time to do it!
