Have you tried 3.05 yet? You can always revert back if you need to by reinstalling the previous version. When it'r crashing on rendering is that with plugins on the item? Does it do it without any?

I have tried installing 2.58, and 3.04, both do the same thing. haven't tried 3.05 yet. I will try, but SERIOUSLY doubt, it will fix the bug. If i remember correctly, it crashes on multiple projects.
might be bad drivers or running out of RAM. please post full system details, audio interface, how much RAM you have, and what plugins you're using. if you're using asio4all under xp there are known problems there as well. could also be related to bad plugins freaking out at strange sample rates (what sample rate are you using?) also, try opening the project with fx offline (it's in the menu), render the project out like that, and see if it crashes.

You should also detail how you render. My system sucks and I could not render in real time because my computer couldn't keep up. I have to do full speed offline and the fastest it goes is .7x I was getting crashes trying to render too... changing to offline worked for me.
I don't know if this is your problem, but 3.04 and earlier did have a problem where when a waveout or directsound audio interface failed to initialize properly it would crash, which is fixed in 3.05.
