I am wondering how to set up a wireless IEM system for a 3-member band on the cheap. Something like the Shure PSM 200 is gonna run ~600.00 just for the base and 1 receiver, let alone 3 receivers. I thought (stupidly enough) that Bluetooth could be the way to go, until I tried working with the technology. Boy, is it shitty and primitive! The BT spec supposedly supports audio streaming from a source to multiple devices, but none of the Windows stacks have been able to do it reliably. And BT has a good bit of latency involved as well. Too bad. Anyone got any clever ideas for a cheap system?

How cheap and how good do you want it to be? How many mixes do you want? 1 Mix with three receivers? Stereo/Mono? Are you playing as a band with real acoustic instruments? On the cheap side...An FM transmitter and some FM radios. You might be able to pick up a cheap 1W transmitter, tune it to a frequency at the edge of the FM band, and then have some cheap FM pocket radios. Something like this: With a few of these: Just a thought. James

IN THE UK: OfCom is changing the wireless audio frequencies. im not sure what to, but i know its gonna be soon. this means if you buy anything now, it either wont be useable past that date (illegal), or it will need re-crystalled. you should be able to find some cheap ones. im not saying theyre gonne be good, but you should be able to strike a balance. as long as you look after them, the lesser build quality of cheaper ones shouldnt be too bad. if you feel you need a quality IEM, then you get what you pay for. but if you want something cheaper, and dont really care about the reduced quality, then see what google has.
