I recently had issues with my handbrake and for a few days I've been using the Park position (avoiding inclines) when parking as the handbrake isnt sorted yet... Is this likely to cause damage to the gearbox atall? I guess it's probably best to avoid doing this, but just wondered if this can damage anything even when done a few times? Cheers Simon B

No you will not cause any damage this is what park position is for basically. All it does is mechanically lock the transmission so that the front wheels cannot turn, you can use it on steep inclines just as you would your handbrake. I hardly ever use my handbrake usually only when waiting at junctions as you can have your foot ready on the throttle. Paul.
the only problem comes when someone bumps into your car and all of a sudden you have a big bill for a new transmission instead of one for just the bumper
Well the big bill would be on his insurance and you should be in park and hand brake so it would still happen.

I very rarely use my handbreak. If it's a very steep hill I do but the autobox lock is stronger than any cable so it's more for law than anything else. Ask any american, they can't understand this handbrake thing they all use the park on the box instead. If anyone rammed my car when it was parked I would be more bothered about the impending court case for assault,,LOL.
