I am new to Pro-tools but not new to digital editing.I can't figure out how to separate (split) a track. Split in PT language seems to refer to turning a stereo interleaved file into two mono files and PT seems to use the word separate for dividing a track into peices if I am correct. I have only been able to separate a track by selecting a range and separating with the scissor tool which creates two splits, and then, only if you move the split. I've looked all over the manual and played with the editing tools and can't seem to find a way to do this. Can someone clue me in. Thanks alot.

i have a hard time understanding your problem but i have an idea...hope its the right one... i seemed to have that same problem or question not too long ago but it occured by accident to find the answer while i performed a copy paste action of a selection to copy elsewhere. but i went too fast and i pasted it right where it was before..nothing changed except that it was seperated off the huge recorded chunk without having to snip up a lil peice off each end to seperate it from the rest! so if thats you problem i got you the simplest solution to remember ************* make a selection with the wave editor tool CUT and PASTE or COPY and PASTE CTRL+X, CTRL+V or CTRL+C, CTRL+V they act the same but i recommend the copy paste because if you screw up you still got your selection intact. ************ GOOD LUCK
