Hy fellas! Check this out, this looks very interesting. The new mp3HD format allows mathematically lossless compression of audio material while preserving backward compatibility to the mp3 standard. Enjoy the reading!!! Peace!
Yeah, the vast majority of non recordists don't give a shit about sound qulity. They just look for that emotional response. MP3's are the new casette and both sound like garbage!
Yeah I was going to say kinda the same thing, so since you brought it up... I kinda see 320 being the original store bought equiv, and down to 128 being equiv to a (approx) 5th generation copy with the differences being MP3 no tape hiss and copy to copy no additional "quality" loss Tape having probably less actual "quality" loss (maybe not) but to hear it thru the additional generational tape hiss made it rough.
Somebody remember mp3pro from them? The idea was great and the quality/size ratio was quite good, but apart from a Winamp plugin and their own mp3pro player there was practically no mediaplayer (soft- or hardware) capable of playing back that format. And nobody really seemed interested in another lossy compression algo at that time. True, mp3 wasn't as widespread as it is today, but if the industry doesn't follow with capable hardware as well, I really see no use for such a format. Raphael ;)

Cool Edit Pro/AA1.5 had mp3 Pro, but I never seen anyone else with it, so I never used it. "packaging lossless + lossy in one file, one more lousy format if you ask me." This sounds like WavPak in a way....
I think there was an upgrade to MP3Pro for Nero, that I bought and my iRiver MP3 player plays them well. I would say that 96kb/s MP3Pro sounds quite comparable to 160kb/s CBR Lame encoded.
