Hi folks, I'm on holiday this week and plan to change the rear pads on my 1999 S40 1.6XS. Unfortunately I don't have access to a Haynes manual at the mo. Is there anything tricky about changing the pads? Also, if I change the discs as well, do they come off once the road pads are removed or are they held on in some other manner? Does anybody know what size the bleed nipples are on the S40? Do I need a special spanner? Thanks for your help folks Cozza:cyclops:
hello you need a special tool to retract the rear caliper to allow space for the new pad. but let me know how can i send you the haynes procedure (email) will be my pleassure. rgds juan
Hi. I managed to retract the calipers with long-nosed pliers - open them to sit in the cut-out sections and push in and twist. Make sure you open the brake fluid cap in the engine compartment - that makes the retraction much easier.
must say, wheneve I've done pad changes I've also used a Clamp in the same way if I wasn't able to push the piston back in using leverage. As already stated, aye take the top off the reservoir it helps a little.
