I am new to Reaper and have some difficulty understanding the file management for my recordings. I am aware that Reaper creates more than one file for each recording that I complete ( .RRP; RRP-bak; Project File; Media File; Peak File). I am also aware that all of those files should be kept together in one folder to avoid losing needed files. My problem: I have been recording acoustic guitar to one track and then saving the WAV file when complete. I can locate the project file by going to Reaper/File/Open and selecting the recorded track. Where are the other files stored ? I cannot see any other files other than the project file within Reaper. Sorry for such a basic question but I am new to Reaper and home recording ! Bill

It depends how you are saving the sound file.If you are,"Rendering" the file that it will be where you point it to be saved unless you leave it at it's default. Here's what I would do and a good habit to get into.Make a new folder with your Song's/Project name. Load up the project or start a new one and give it the same name. Now choose View/Media Explorer and a new tab should be down at the bottom of Reaper with Media Explorer. You can use this whilst within Reaper to navigate and manipulate files. Now use search for rpp file and copy those with the name you know to the new folder. Then import the wav file of the sound into the project(Media Explorer) and From the File Menu in Reaper choose,"Save-As" and point it to your new project folder. Now you should have all the files in one place when you open and save the project.Get into the habit of making a separate folder for each song.I make a Master folder called ReaperSongs and keep sub folders with my song names as each folder inside it.That way I know where everything is and it makes it easy to back them up. HTH :)

If you want to add a recording (WAV, OGG, MP3, etc) to a track, use the menu "Insert -> Media File...", which will allow you to select any media file supported by Reaper. The "File -> Open..." menu is essentially for loading project files, not media files, as Fabian said. Regards, Fergo

Thanks for your advice and suggestions. I'll reopen Reaper tonight and try to get files organized. Thanks again, Bill
