As I ambled through Practical Performance Car magazine the other day I noticed a section where one of the staffers dreams of a mad car to build. The car he was dreaming of was a 340 or 360 with a T5 engine mated to the standard bow running a 740(I think) LSD. This car he reckoned would be a fantastic tramp drift car. Has anyone ever tried the build or at least theoretically built one? If I ever get a decent sized garage I'd be inclined to have a shot although I would use it as a Q car rather than drift. Ive checked the net and to source a T5 engine and a 340-360 is quite cheaply done! Your the experts though so please educate me on the subject :)

As far as I know the T5 lump has not been dropped into a 360 as yet (to use a 340 you would have to fit 360 running gear). There is a conversion plate available for the swap as teh bellhosing is teh same as 240,s 740,s etc Personaly I would keep on the tried and tested mothod of using teh 740/760 2.3 turbo lump. The old red block will make more power and is fairly simple to drop in. As to the rear diff if you want to drift then all the drifers just weld up the diff. Far a rally car then a lsd would have to made to fit.

My first idea was to use a T5 engine in my 360. Im not fitting a 2.3 redblock turbo engine as 1) Its more or less bolt in 2) It can be tuned to make lots more power with less chance of blowing up Only reason I can now think of to fit a t5 engine is the sound. Matt

thankyou all. It was the idea of other folks but looks like large power 340-360's have already been done so the desire has gone. Still a q-car (not rally a streeet sleeper for when you meet idiots in there boy racer cars you bloe them off {this also includes idiots in bigger cars })

Hmm - I'd be careful about reading PPC magazine, I found myself toying with the idea of building a twin engined 240 after reading an early issue about a guy who stuffed 2 V6's into an old alfa 164. On a slightly more sensible note , they did do an article recently where someone had put the 2.3 turbo in a 340 and was considering junking the rear axle in favour of one from a 240/740. Sounds a very interesting idea - I wonder has anyone else tried that?
